A Gift From Adam

This poem was found amongst Adam’s school work after his death.  From the handwriting of the assistant it must have been written in 2010/11.

It is clearly unfinished, for example, Adam had not added punctuation, apart from two commas, which he tended to add last to his poems.  It is a wonderful gift to find from Adam.

WINTER

Winter is
Frost on my window pane like an artist’s stroke
Shimmering it sparkles with the changing light
Icicles clinging from the roofs and doorways
People slipping and sliding balancing precariously
Along winding streets and lanes

It is a winter tapestry
Snow covered hills
A frozen lake that a gliding swan swims on

It is a glittering star
A silver rocket
Landing on the moon

Shivering freezing sneezing
Fingers and toes
Face red
Nose running

Hats on heads
Collars turned up
People wrapped up
Thick socks, wellies, furry boots

Winter is a frosty landscape
A colourless time
Windows frosted over
Fields covered in snow
All is white

My Latest Commission : A Poem on NHS Leadership

Thank you Rob Webster for asking me to write this poem.
It took me a long time to do, but I really enjoyed doing it.
I drew on my experiences good and bad as a NHS patient.

A POEM FOR LEEDS CHILDREN"S HOSPITAL APPEAL

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !

Happy Birthday, lets have some fun,

Its party time, the mayor has come!

Us boys and girls can't wait to play,

We're so excited to share your day,

We want to thank you for all you do,

You help make us better and pull us through.

All the fundraisers are so cool,

You make life better for us all.

Like all Leeds staff you are the best,

So happy 3rd birthday, now have a rest!

World Cup Winner

I wrote this poem for my home study English course, I had to imagine I was scoring the winning goal in football match, hope you like it:-

World Cup Winner

With aching legs and a heart full of pride,
The noise of the crowd left nowhere to hide.
The clock was ticking towards the end of the game,
If it stayed a draw, it would be a shame.
In my nation’s shirt, in the heart  of  Brazil
Scoring the winning goal would be such a thrill.
In the heat of Rio, I dive for the ball,
But it hits the post, I feel such a fool!
I rally my strength and run up the pitch,
I use my right foot, avoiding a hitch.
The ball floats through the air and over the line,
The feeling inside of me is simply divine.
The ref blows the whistle, the crowd shout and scream,
I’ve scored the winner, I’m living the dream!

A new poem for Spring

SPRING
I am March, April, May,
I am new life starting today.
I am brisk and bright,
I am a flying fluttering kite.
I am trees in the breeze,
I am cold, go away please.
I am the sun in the sky,
I am wispy clouds high.
